Common Pest Signs: A Rio Grande Valley Homeowner Guide

A sign or photograph can help start the conversation, but it does not replace an evaluation. Use this guide to explain where activity occurs and which service may be worth discussing. Do not handle unfamiliar pests or apply an unidentified product based solely on a picture.

Cockroaches

Note recurring activity around kitchens, bathrooms, garages or utility areas and whether sightings occur in several rooms. Share a photo if practical, along with the frequency and location. Reduce accessible food and water, and ask about general pest control rather than assuming one product suits every cockroach concern.

Ants

Describe the trail, where it begins and any visible entry point. Different ant concerns can call for different approaches. Note whether activity returns after cleaning and whether the concern is indoors or around the foundation. An evaluation helps determine suitable coverage.

Mosquitoes

Identify which outdoor areas are affected and when activity is most noticeable. Remove avoidable standing water and discuss the separate mosquito program. General pest yard coverage is not automatically the same as mosquito control.

Rodents

Noises, droppings, gnawing or damaged storage items can be useful details even without a sighting. Tell the team where and when signs appear. Do not handle rodents, droppings or control devices without guidance; ask about rodent evaluation and follow-up.

Termites

Suspected mud tubes, wings or damaged wood warrant a closer look. Photograph visible evidence without disturbing it if practical, and share any prior treatment history. Request a termite inspection before selecting treatment; accessible-area inspections cannot detect every concealed concern.

Spiders

Describe recurring webs or sightings around eaves, corners, garages and storage areas. Reduce clutter where practical and share the locations with the technician. Ask whether general pest control is an appropriate starting point rather than trying to identify or handle an unfamiliar spider.

Other pests or an uncertain identification

Describe the concern and ask whether it falls within the offered services. Specialty pests may require a different scope, extra cost or a referral. A listing of common pests is not a promise that every species is included in every service plan.
